The basics

Walking tours are ideal to learn more about the history of King’s Square—including its links to World War II. Many guided Munich walking tours focus on Hilter and the Third Reich, with stops at King’s Square, the Old Town Hall, Marienplatz, and the Staatliches Hofbräuhaus. Other travelers opt for small-group or private bike tours to see the city faster. Alternatively, a Segway tour is another fun and fast way to tick off Munich’s top sights.

When to get there

Munich is busiest in the summer and during the world-renowned annual Oktoberfest festival—which usually runs from September to October. It’s best to avoid visiting between July and October to beat the crowds. Instead, opt for a trip in May or June and visit King’s Square during the week for a less congested experience.
